Heart Disease Fatal to well known resident of Mound City: Funeral Wednesday Forenoon.

John Daniel Bower died at his home in Mound City at the age of 73. Heart trouble was the cause of his lingering ill health and death. He had been in the abstract business here since 1813. Mr Bower was the son of Lewis C. and Harriet R. Bower, and was born August 23, 1859 in Ashtabula County, Ohio. He moved with his parents to Nebraska in the spring of 1869. He was educated in the rural schools of Nebraska and at the Fort Scott Normal College. While at school in Fort Scott in 1884 and 1885 he met Martha E Dingus and they were married in 1886. The couple moved to Linn County in 1888 and they taught school and farmed for twelve or fifteen years before buying he abstract business of Thorne and McDill in 1813, Mr Bower united with the Christian Church when he was eighteen years of age and was an elder of that church from the time it started in Mound City until it joined with the Community Church.
He was Charman of the Linn County Red Cross from 1917 until 1931, retiring because of ill health, at which time he was made honorary chairman in which capacity he served until death.

Mr. Bower is survived by his widow,Mrs Mattie Bower and two sons, Burnette O. Bower of Parsons, KS and Cecil L. Bower of Jefferson City MO; five sisters Mrs Clara A Kayser, Shubert Nebraska, Mrs Loulsa M Barns, Fairbury Nebraska, Mrs Maria L Pickins, Shubert, Nebraska, Mrs Martha R Bowman Moran KS, Mrs Mary E Casey, Spooner WI; five brothers Irvin N Bower, Nimrod, Montana, Myron W Bower, Corvallis, OR, Burnet II, Bower Provo, Utah, Lee C Bower, Ft Pierce FL, and Clark A Bower, Wray, CO.

Funeral services were Held at the Methodist Church at 10{30 Wednesday morning with the Rev S.A. Ennefer officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery. (Blk 145, Lot 3)
