SHRIVER

Garry Lee Shriver was born October 14, 1939, the second son of Ivan and Babe Shriver, in rural Wayne County, Iowa. He passed away on August 7, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

He attended Chariton schools and graduated from high school in 1957. He began his career with Johnson Machine after high school and later moved to Boone, Iowa, Denver, Colo., Phoenix, Ariz., and in 1985 moved back to Chariton, where he settled on a small farm south of town. He increased his knowledge by classes and experience, becoming a welder-fitter and plant superintendent.

His parents and a niece, Kerry Lynn Shriver, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his two sons; Ed and special friend Roberta, and Rick and wife Donna; a daughter, Kim and husband Dave; seven grandchildren; Sara, Amanda, Amber, Chris, Sherry, Gary, Jamie and husband Justin Robinson; two great grandchildren; Bailey and Kaitlynn.

He is also survived by two brothers; Larry Shriver and wife Linda, and Jerry (Tub) Shriver and wife Sandra; and one sister, Mary and husband Terry Thompson, He was a dearly loved special uncle to many nieces and nephews and a very special friend of Vera Jean Rowe.

Garry loved his farm and was a member of the Chariton River Valley Antique Power Assoc., and the Iowa Rollers Club. He took many trophies with his pigeons including a world championship.

Garry came back to Iowa after the passing of his father to spend more time with his brothers and sisters and to help care for his mother. Garry has known his final dreams have been completed.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Fielding Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Sparks officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery. Serving as bearers were: Chris Shriver, Jerry Shriver, Courtney Shriver, Curt Shriver, Tony Shriver, Brady Thompson and Rodney Mumford.
