Edward Coolidge Couch, 79, of 1815 Eleventh St (Brownwood, Tx) died Sunday at 2 a.m. in a local hospital. Services were to be held today at 2p.m. in Davis-Morris chapel with burial in Greenleaf Cemetary.
Dr. Ben H, Moore, paster of the Santa Anna Presbyterian Church and Rev. Bill Orton were to be the officiating ministers.
Mr. Couch was born 12 July 1878, in Derry, N.H. to O.D. Couch and the former Miss Ellen Maria Coolidge. At the age of six, he came to Texas with his parents where his father established and operated the Tony Ridge Nursery near Lancaster.
On 24 January 1900, he was married to Miss Daisy Brownlee in Lancaster and was the father of four children.
Mr Couch and family moved to Brown County in 1901 where he was engaged in ranching and building business in the Zephyr community. His father organized the First State Bank there.
He was a member of the Zephyr Presbyterian Church and assisted in the building of the stone building which still stands. Couch served many years in the capacities of Sunday school superintendent and choir member, and was a member of the Yeomen Lodge.
He and his family moved to Brownwood in 1925 where he continued in the building business and was a member of the Austin Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, E.C. Couch, Jr. of Evant; three daughters, Mrs. Walter E. Gilmore of Brownwood, Mrs Price Ashton of Ranger and Mrs. Melvin Bailey of Cisco; two brothers, O.D. and Gene Couch of Zephyr; a grandson, Lt. Gerald C. Couch of the U.S. Air Force in Japan; a granddaughter, Mrs. Jack Auld of Kerrville, and four great-grandchildren.
