Mrs. Adella Applegate, a life-long resident of the Cicero community, died this morning in Riverview Hospital where she had been a patient since Jan. 2.
The daughter of John C and Elvira Whisler , she was born in the old Salem community, July 7, 1872.
On Sept.9,1897 she married Elmer Applegate who died Mar.22,1951. She was an active member of the Cicero Methodist Church and the Cozy Homemakers Home Demonstration Club. Formerly an organist at the Salem Church, she developed a hobby of braiding woolen rugs which later turned into a small business. A book on the history of the Whisler family published in 1957 was dedicated to Mrs. Applegate in recognition of her assistance to the author.
Surviving are five sons and five daughters; Mrs. Raymond Randall and Dr. A Ward Applegate, both of Noblesville; Karl R. Applegate, Mrs. Julius Haworth, John W. Applegate,
Edward Applegate and Mrs. Justus Durnell, all of Cicero; Mrs. C.M. Clark, Indianapolis; Waltz Applegate, Harrisburg, IL; Mrs. Byron Crosby, Roachdale, Ind.; 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Judge Edwin K. Applegate, city judge at Bloomington, IN. Dr. Donald E Applegate, dentist at Richmond and Richard Haworth, agriculture agent in Morgan County, are among the grandsons.
Two brothers Albert N. and Ary D. Whisler are deceased.
