Karl R. Applegte, 79, of Cicero, died Saturday afternoon at Riverview Hospital.
A Hamilton County resident most of his life, he was retired manager of Cicero Elevator.
Born at Cicero on Mar 19,1895, Mr. Applegate was the son of E.E. and Adella (Whisler) Applegate. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cicero, Masonic Lodge No. 262 of Winamac, past president of the Winamac Kiwanis Club and a member of WW1 Barrack 131. A graduate of Cicero High School, he was preceded in death in 1968, by his first wife, Gladys (Worley).
Survivors include the widow, Mary of Cicero; a son K. Edwin Applegate of Bloomington; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Baumgartner of Tipton; three stepchildren, Edward R. and James R. Brown both of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Martha Shirley of Downers Grove, IL.
There are five sisters, Mrs. Agnes Hayworth and Mrs. Kathryn Darnell both of Cicero, Mrs. Jeanette Randall of Noblesville, Mrs. Clara Clark of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Margaret Crosby of Roachdale. Fifteen grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
