Helen Ivins Broadfield, 93, of Burlington, died at 10:34 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 16, 1916, in rural Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Everett and Lorna Weber Ivins. On Oct. 22, 1935, she married Edward Broadfield, in Fort Madison. He died Feb. 1, 1971.
Mrs. Broadfield worked for the Denmark grocery store, Sylvania IRC and Sheaffer Pen Co., retiring in 1983. She was a 1934 graduate of Denmark High School. She attended the Denmark Congregational Church where she was a member of the church circle. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, sewing, reading, mowing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan.
Survivors include two daughters; Connie Settles of Burlington and Neoma Carman of Crestview, Fla.; one son, Edward Jake Broadfield of Wever; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister Wilma Piccard of Minneapolis, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, two daughters, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be after noon on Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Helen Ivins Broadfield will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Kendall Adams officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Fort Madison.
A memorial has been established for Denmark Congregational Church.
