Jerry Cottrell, 77, Dies; Rites Tuesday

James (Jerry) Cottrell, 77, died at the Vinton hospital Saturday evening following a lingering illness.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cottrell, he was born in Benton county, January 22, 1884. He was a lifelong resident of Benton county, and had been employed by the City of Vinton for a number of years before his retirement in 1953.
He married Estella Griffin at Vinton November 22, 1915. She died January 15, 1942.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Hazel) Dern of Rock Island, Ill., a granddaughter, Mrs. Norma Hobbs of Moline, Ill., and a great-granddaughter, Judy Roberts of Moline. Also surviving are a brother, Cal Cottrell of Muscatine and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Dora Cottrell of Vinton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Taylor Funeral home. Rev. Robert P. Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
