Benjamin Aufdembrink, 60, of 313 E. 20th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1966 and member of the Newton City Council for 12 years, died Saturday morning, Sept. 26, at the Skiff Medical Center of cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, Mo. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wallace-Pence funeral Home. Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or Dollars for Scholars will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Dessie; a son, Brent of Wilmington, Del.; four daughters, Debbie (Mrs. Regan) Tabor of Farmington, Mo., Linda (Mrs. Al) Trotter of Jacksonville, Fla., Amy (Mrs. Jim) Verhoef of Osage Beach, Mo., and Tammy Aufdembrink of Dallas, Texas; and six grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Alvin of Mount Vernon, Mo.; and three sisters, Laura Aufdembrink, of Mount Vernon, Mo., Edna (Mrs. Ed) Bergemann of St. Paul, Minn., and Gladys (Mrs. Don) Anna of Severna Park, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Kevin, a brother and two step-brothers. Mr. Aufdembrink, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, for which he had been a deacon, elder and church treasurer, was a member of the board of directors for the Jasper County Communications Commission, had served as president of the Central Iowa Foundation for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and had been a Boy Scout leader.
A Maytag employee, Mr. Aufdembrink previously had been a fieldman for the Jasper and Adair County Farm Bureaus, a district sales manager of Shelter Insurance Co., and vice-president of human resources for Production Credit Association.
The son of Theodore and Minna Freie Aufdembrink, he was born Aug. 26, 1932 in Freistatt, Mo., was graduated from Mount Vernon, Mo., High School and the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
