Deceased Name: Kenneth R. Boss
GARLAND -Kenneth R. Boss, 89, was called home the first day of spring March 21, 2007. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep. Ken was born in Garland, Utah, May 24, 1917, the seventh of twelve children to Peter and Ida Boss.He married Monese Myrick Flowers June 23, 1948 accepting Mone-se's daughters, as his own. Together they brought three girls and one son into the home. They were later divorced.On May 28, 1969 he married the woman he chose to be his eternal mate, Beverly Austin Rose. Just as before, Ken accepted Bev's children as his own.Ken lived in Garland his entire life, his contributions to the community and family will be greatly missed.As a High School Senior, playing Trombone in the Bear River High School Band, he was selected as one of only three members from Bear River to form an eighty-one-member band from twenty-seven high schools in Utah. Performing as a Utah band at a National celebration they received many honors for their participation.After graduating from high school, Ken attended BYU until he was called to serve a mission for the LDS Church in Brazil, South America. Upon returning he was soon called to serve his Country in World War II. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the China, Burma and India (CBI) Theater of the War.After returning from the War, Ken took over the family farm. He built the first walk-through dairy barn in Box Elder County and ran a Grade A dairy business for 44 years. He helped organize the Young Farmers Association (Box Elder Chapter), where he served for several years. Ken also worked at Thiokol as an Electronic Technician for many years.As a young man, Ken was asked to be the Church MIA Dance Director for the youth, and later the Stake Dance Director. He filled two Stake Missions and was the Chorister for the Bear River Stake for 45 years. He led the Bear River Stake Choir for the re-dedication of the Logan Temple March 13, 1979, and served for 15 years in the Church Extraction Program. He has served in the Branch Presidency at the Bear River Nursing Home for 18 years.In his retirement years, Ken enjoyed temple work, fishing, flower gardening and playing organ music for funerals and for the residents at the Nursing Home each week. He enjoyed taking a step in technology and mastering the computer.Ken was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his children and step-children; Gayla (Robert) Thompson (Elwood, UT), Joy (Erich) Kallan (Werfen, Austria), Darlyn Boss (Denver, CO), Carolyn Hutson, and her fiance Michael Martin, (Denver, CO), Julie Ann (Jim) Larson (Bountiful, UT), Roger Rose (SLC, UT), Mont (Cheryl) Rose (Fielding, UT), Greg Moe (Julie) Rose (Tremonton, UT); 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He is also survived by two brothers, Karl and Russell Boss and two sisters, June Orchard and Donna Linford.He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, his parents, two brothers (Chester and Victor Boss), two sisters (Minerva Jesse and Edna Wood), his son (John Boss), step-daughter (Sherry Ann Petersen) and a step-son (Kirk David Rose).The family would like to thank the dedicated workers of Hospice Alliance for the tender care they provided to our loved one. Their care allowed him to die as he wished, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Specifically; Allen Sorenson, Jason Bohman, Stacie Rose, Tammy, Andrea, Anna, and anyone else associated with that organization.A funeral service will be held Friday, March 30, 2007 at 11a.m. at the Garland LDS Tabernacle, 140 West Factory St., Garland with Bishop Brent O. Deakin officiating. Family and friends may call Thursday, March 29, 2007 from 6 -8 p.m. and Friday, from 9-10:15 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton.Interment at Garland Cemetery.On-line condolences may be expressed at www.rogersand taylor.com
