Vencil Joseph Strobl was born September 24, 1910 on a farm six miles north of Red Cloud. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 18, 1991 at Red Cloud at the age of 81 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Barbara Strobl; six sisters Lizzie Sidlo, Emma Prochaska, Bessie Prochaska, Tillie Jelinek, Annie Strobl and Lydia Lannigan and four brothers Alex, Fred, Rudolf and George Strobl.

Vencil grew up on the farm and attended rural school District #26.

On August 17, 1936 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Post and they made their home in Red Cloud. To this union four children were born, James of Lawrence, Kansas; Richard of Hagerstown, Maryland; Dan of Danville, Kentucky and Barbara Hubl of Yuma, Arizona. Other survivors include six grandsons, four granddaugthers and 2 great granddaughters. Vencil especially loved his three daughters-in-law, Diane, Susan and Shari.

Vencil was an ambitious and well respected business man and was in the oil business for 35 years. He began with Standard Oil Company in 1935. After ten years he left Standard Oil and started Strobl Oil Company. He bought out two filling stations and built up a large delivery business to farmers. After 30 years he sold out to Delbert Lewis and retired from the oil business. For the next 11 years he drove a school bus and retired from that in 1972.

Vencil also raised Black Angus cattle from 1957 until he was no longer able to care for them in about 1976. This was his favorite hobby.

Vencil was a member of the Congregational-Christian Church. He was a very devoted family man and took great pride in his family and especially looked forward to their visits.

In August of 1986, Vencil and Dorothy celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. In June of 1989 he suffered a stroke and was confined to Heritage of Red Cloud for the past 2 1/2 years.
