Robert W. Noel, 95, entered into rest October 10, 2009, at Country Meadows. Mr. Noel was the husband of Sybella G. (Fahringer) Noel, who died in 1968.

Born in York, September 2, 1914, he was the son of the late Charles Roy and Ida (Wert) Noel.

Mr. Noel began working at the former York International (Johnson Controls) in 1939 as a machinist. He retired 40 years later as the Director of Plant Engineering in 1979. He was responsible for the expansion of the Madisonville, Ky. plant. He also directed the building of the existing high rise office on Richland Ave. Mr. Noel was a 1932 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and attended classes at Penn State University- York Campus. He was a great believer in volunteerism and directed his efforts toward the West York Area School District. He was on the Building Authority for building the West York High School, which was completed in 1959. He was the Volunteer Project Advisor for the additions and renovations of the high school 25 years later. In 1992, he received a citation from the school district for heading the additions and renovations of the West York Area Elementary schools.

He is survived by son, K. . Robert and his wife, Ann L. Noel of York; daughter- Veda A. and her husband, Edgar A. Henry of Nashua, N.H.; companion Esther Poet of York; two grandsons, Sam and Joseph Henry of Nashua, N.H.; granddaughter, Jan E. and her husband, Ken Gummerlock of Dover; granddaughter, Nan A. Reigh of York; grandson, Jon R. and his wife, Liz of York; five great-grandchildren, Ashley N., Zachary P. and Michael J. Reigh of York ; Kenneth A. and Kevin J. Gummerlock of Dover; two brothers, Richard and George Noel of York. In addition to his loving wife, Robert was predeceased by a brother, Charles Noel; and three sisters, Betty McDonald, Doris Buchar and Phyllis Mears.
