Bernice M. Lessman
Bernice Mae Lessman, formerly of Elk City, died Wednesday at Bass Memorial Hospital in Enid, Okla.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the New Hopedale Mennonite church in Meno, Okla. With the Rev. Larry Brashear officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Elk City, under the direction of the Kenny Lanman Funeral home of Helena, Okla. The casket will be closed.
Memorials are suggested to the New Hopedale Mennonite Church and contribution may be mailed to the funeral home.
Mrs. Lessman was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Elk City to Hiram and Eva (Whistler) Merritt. She was a graduate of Elk City High School and had a teacher preparation class as part of her high school curriculum.
After graduation, Mrs. Lessman earned her teacher certification and taught in several schools in the Elk City area.
In February 1931, she married Homer Eversole. He died in 1933.
On Nov. 27, 1936 she married Dick Lessman at Elk City. He died in 1966.
While living in Elk City, Mrs. Lessman was a member of the Christian Church serving as secretary/treasurer. She belonged to the Grange, the Coterie Club and was on the cemetery board. After moving to Meno, in 1987, she was active in the New Hopedale Mennonite Church.
