Eva Jane Merritt
Mrs. Eva Jane Merritt, 89, lifetime resident of Elk City, died at 12:30 AM today at Glenwood Estate Nursing Home.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Webb and Rodrick Funeral Home with Dr. Norman Simmons, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Elk City. The casket will be closed at the funeral hour.
Pallbearers will be grandsons of Mrs. Merritt, including Gary, bob and Lynn Merritt, Larry Renfro, B.W. Koehn and Leon Keeley.
Mrs. Merritt was born March 5, 1887 at Elk City, the daughter of John and Nannie (Owen) Whistler. On Nov. 26, 1908 at Elk City, she married Hiram Merritt and in died in 1943.
She held membership in the United Methodist Church of Elk City.
Surviving are two sons, Clyde and Clifford Merritt, both of Independence; two daughters, Mrs. D. M. (Bernice) Lessman of Elk City and Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Rentfro of Okmulgee, Okla; a brother, Tom Whistler of Elk City, two sisters, Mrs. Oscar Keltz of Independence and Mrs. Virgil Saunders of Overland Park; 11 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
The family may be contacted at the Clifford Merritt home at 122 Spruce.
