John Seeley Mahoney Mr. Mahoney passed away peacefully at his "home away from home", The Villas, in Tucson, Arizona on September 4, 2009. John was born on June 30, 1920, in Alva, Wyoming to John Thomas and Mary Gertrude Mahoney. He grew up on his Dad's cattle ranch in Alva, and when his Dad passed away, John took on most of the running of the ranch at the age of 16. In 1938, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Neil Willson, and together they raised their family of eight children in Hulett, Wyoming. When their marriage ended in 1969, John moved to Washington for a short time. In 1970 he moved to Tucson and met Patricia L. "Pat" Perrussel. They married in 1972, and raised a son and stepson together. Pat passed away on John's birthday on June 30, 2008. John was employed in Hulett both as the Town Marshall and Head Sawyer at the sawmill for many years. He was a larger-than-life and well-respected member of the community. In Tucson he was employed by Gates Lear-Jet as a Small Tool Technician for 15 years before his retirement. He was an avid hunter most of his life and was most proud of the B&C record-holding, 224 1/8 point, trophy, white-tail buck he bagged when he was 27 years old. He was also a great and imaginative storyteller. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; his brother, Lloyd; his sister, Alice; his half brother, Joe; his stepsister, Katey; his stepbrothers, Morris and Ben; and his daughters, Linda Bea and Darlene "LaNette". He is survived by his children, Joan Wilkinson (Gary), Mike Mahoney (Peggy), Vonn Mahoney (Denise), Sherry Walter (Fran), Nena Handlin (Paul), Marla Waugh, Todd Mahoney (Sheila), and stepson, J.D. Perrussel (Debbie); his brothers, Fred Mahoney and Ed Mahoney; his half sister, Ellen Turner; 22 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. John will be terribly missed by those who knew and loved him. His family wishes to extend our appreciation for the many expressions of sympathy and prayers offered. Memorial services will be held at the EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle Rd. and W. Miracle Mile on September 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity in memory of John S. Mahoney.
