Mrs. Serrett who was killed last night near Ladd, made her home with a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Fitzgerald of Fishersville. She was born in Rockbridge County Jan. 27, 1891, a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Rebecca Taylor Truslow. Mrs. Serrett was a member of the Stuarts Draft Baptist Church and attended the Free Methodist Church of Waynesboro. She was a member of Rebecca Lodge No. 91 at Buena Vista.
The victim is survived by seven children: Mrs. Hal H. Young, of Winter Garden, Fla., Mrs. Wallace Hams of Stuarts Draft, Mrs. George E. Caldwell of Buena Vista, and Mrs. Maurice Fitzgerald of Fishersville; three sons, Herbert R. Serrett of Stuarts Draft, Harold A. Serrett of Waynesboro, and A. H. Serrett of Mt. Sidney. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Charles Riley and Mrs. Lee Johnson of Lexington, two brothers, Graham N. Truslow and S. H. Truslow, both of Staunton, 31 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the East Chapel of the Hamrick Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Carl E. Pope of Waynesboro, assisted by the Rev. Roland Powell of Stuarts Draft and the Rev. Edward Lewis of Buena Vista.
Pallbearers will be W. T. Wingfield, S. W. Harman Sr., Harold Cline, Hansford Vest, Hallie R. Lambert, Wilbert D. Alexander, Elmer Back and George McCray. Honorary pallbearaers will be Paul T. Blackwell, Henry Wingfield, Earl Walker, Homer Weaver, Anderson Thurston, Raymond Hensley, Hubert Camden, O. M. Wheeler, M. L. Barnes, James McGrath, Robert N. Harman, and members of the Rebecca Lodge of Buena Vista.
The family will receive friends at the residences of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Fitzgerald, Fishersville, and Mrs. Harold A. Serrett of Route 2, Waynesboro.
