JESSE WHITCOMB DEAD

Jesse Whitcomb, an aged resident of Chariton, and somewhat eccentric, had for years lived alone in a cheerless cabin in the hollow east of the Rock Island track. On last Thursday he was found lying on a cot insensible. The neighbors had noticed he was not about, but found the door locked. However, entrance was gained and he was found as mentioned, having simply worn out and exhausted.

He was taken to the County Home and rallied, but later relapsed, falling into a stupor and on Monday passed away. He has a son in Oklahoma and perhaps one or two elsewhere, but they were unable to reach here.

A service was held this afternoon at the Beardsley home and the remains were taken to the Bethel cemetery, in Cedar township for burial. Formerly, the family had resided in that community.
