Ravenna, Texas -- Funeral services with Military Honors for James Duane Caylor, age 88, of Ravenna will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Bonham. Rev. Bill Beasley will officiate with assistance from Rev. Morgan Malone.

Interment will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery.

Mr. Caylor passed away on Monday, October 5, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.

James Duane Caylor was born in Kentucky Town, TX on August 30, 1921 to parents William Lester and Rosalee Martin Caylor.

He married Helen Frances McLain on January 2, 1946 in Bonham who preceded him in death on April 5, 1999.

Mr. Caylor served honorably in the Navy; he served in Pacific Theater stationed out of Ford Island, Pearl Harbor. He worked on P.B.M. Mariner amphibian planes/aircrafts as maintainer. After being discharged from the Navy, he came back to Ravenna, bought a peanut thrasher and became the 1st peanut thrasher in the county after obtaining the thrasher with the assistance from the county judge and Mr. Sam Rayburn.

Mr. Caylor worked for Lone Star Gas Company in Sherman and retired after 22 years. He worked for the City of Sherman as Service Center Manager and retired in 1984.

He was a member and Deacon of Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman for over 30 years. He was also a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Bonham until his health prevented him from making the trip into town moving him to Sandy Baptist Church in Ravenna.

Mr. Caylor was a cattle rancher and loved doing anything and everything that pertains to being outdoors.

James Duane Caylor know as J.D. to friends, Duane to family, Daddy to children, Papaw to grandchildren, and Great-Papaw to great grandchildren will forever be loved and remembered and will be greatly missed.

Survived by sons-Larry Caylor and wife Pat of Sherman, and Jerry Caylor and wife Jana of Sherman, daughters- Linda Casey and husband Dennis of Sherman, and Kathy Thompson of Bloomburg, TX, grandsons-John Casey and wife Seeley, Joshua Caylor, Jess Caylor and wife Jamie, and Jeb Caylor, granddaughters- Amy Walker and husband Andy, Amanda Clayton and husband Marc, Becki Caylor, and Marty Alexander, several great-grandchildren, brother-Barry Caylor and wife Violet of Ravenna. Aunt Lula Mae Farmer of Dallas, sisters-in-law-Morene Caylor, Betty Caylor of Ravenna, and Alice Caylor of Savoy, brother-in-law-Jack Hall of Ravenna, and sister-in-law- Opal Caylor of Sherman.

Preceded in death by grandson Jacob Michael Thompson, and son-in-law-Jack Thompson, sister Aurelia Hall, and brothers Bruce Caylor Sr., W.L. (Dub) Caylor, Howard Caylor, Byron Caylor and Bill Caylor.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be held at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 6-7:30 P.M.
