Dorothy J. Knuth, 90, was born to eternal life Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Linden Grove Nursing Home in Waukesha.
Dorothy was born March 27, 1918, in Babcock, to Algon and Harriet (Brost) Caylor. She graduated from Nekoosa High School in 1936 and attended Wood County Normal School. On June 30, 1937, she married Alvin Knuth. They made their home in Wisconsin Rapids until moving to the town of Ashippun, Dodge County, in 1949. From 1949 until 1973, Dorothy and "Al," along with Dorothy's brother, Neil Caylor, and his wife, Betty, owned and operated the Ashippun Service Station and Grocery Store. Following the death of her husband in 1976, Dorothy was employed by Chrysler Outboard in Hartford and then Hystro Products in Oconomowoc, retiring from there in 1998 at the age of 80.
Dorothy was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in the town of Ashippun, where she faithfully attended worship services and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She also volunteered at Bethesda Thrift Shop through her church. In her community, she served as a blood donor, blood bank volunteer and ballot clerk at local elections for many years. She enjoyed participating in bowling and horseshoe leagues; however, time spent with her family remained foremost in her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and their spouses, Donald (Verna), Neil (Betty) and Foster (Dorothy) Caylor; and son-in-law, Patrick Triggs.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Triggs of Horicon, and Jeanne (Jay) Johns of Oconomowoc; grandchildren, Jodi (Kevin) Allen of Rockledge, Fla., Jesse (Rachel) Knasinski of West Salem, Ill., Jill (Andy) Dane of the town of Ashippun, and Jessica (Tim) Tio of Oconomowoc; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brooke Allen, Hunter Knasinski and Bella Dane. She is further survived by her brother, Arnold (Donna) Caylor of Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law, Arvilla Zimmerman of Wisconsin Rapids; and many nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at St. John's Lutheran Church, N1245 St. John's Way. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to her church, the Ashippun Emergency Medical Squad or a charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to thank the Rev. Gary Tillman for his visits and support, and the staff at Linden Grove for the loving care given to Dorothy and the support given to her family.
