William J. Parmenter was a merchant in Yutan, Nebraska. He owned and operated a general store until it failed in a depression during the 1890's. He was appointed Postmaster in Yutan in 1894 and later served for a number of years as a rural mail carrier in the Yutan area. Late in his life he again operated the general store in Yutan, retiring about 1931 because of poor health.
