Obituary
"Harry Rodney Casjens was born on August 22, 1912 at Sisseton, S. Dak., to Ira and Hattie (DeGroot) Casjens. In 1918 he moved with his parents to a farm near Hayti, S. Dak., where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Violet Rook on February 38, 1941 at Rock Rapids, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War II from April 20, 1942 until his discharge on November 14, 1945. After his discharge they farmed in Deuel County for 17 years. In 1964 they moved to California where they lived until 1968 when they returned to Estelline. He served as city policeman and operated Madison Best Feeds until his retirment in 1980.

He passed away at the Estelline Hospital early Tuesday morning, September 1, 1987, reaching the age of 75 years and nine days. He was a member of the Montgomery-Anderson Post 184 of the American Legion of Estelline.

Harry is survived by his wife, Violet of Estelline; two sons, Michael and Steven Casjens, both of Estelline; three daughters, Peggy Carrico, WendyCasjens and Connie Beck, all of Aberdeen, S. Dak.; one brother, Bert Casjens of Camano Island, Wash.; six sisters, Zee Steffenhagen of Bell, Calif., (Leona) Mrs. Cecil Zwiep of Bellflower, Calif., Bernice Amerson of Bloomington, Minn., (Margie) Mr. Nick Karsemeyer of Glen Ellen, Calif., (Irene) Mrs. Wilson Smith of San Angelo, Texas and Ruby Casjens of La Habra, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preced in death by his parents and two brothers."
