Dr. Thomas Mickleberry Merritt, Jr. received in medical degree from the Medical College of Geogia in 1890 and later studied in Baltimore, MD. He practiced medicine along the Georgia-Florida line for about 5 years before returning to the farms near Friendship and Marion County. He made his home in Americus at 316 W. College Street and farmed lands just north of Americus on Highway 19.
