An 1857 graduate of the University of Georgia. Captain of Company G, 2nd Georgia Cavalry, CSA. Returned to wife Anna Hamlin Lewis Merritt and settled in Marion County. Later bought a plantation in Sumter County and moved to Americus. Grandson was Capt. George Norman Munro, US Army, WW I.
