Eliza was the daughter of Charlotte Gebhard and Mr. Lawyer. Catherine Lawyer and her family are listed right after the Gebhard family in the 1850 census. It can be assumed that Charlotte married one of the sons of this family that lived so close to them. It is believed that Eliza's parents either divorced, or her father died, as her mother then married Charles Goodyear and went on to have children with him. Eliza, her mother, step-father, and her half-siblings are all living with Eliza's Gebhard grandparents in the 1850 census.

Eliza married Nicholas Woodcock about 1851 and they had four children: Franklin P.; Julia E.; Charlotte Harriet; Ella J.

The family lived in Wright, Schoharie County, New York, until sometime between 1865 and 1870, when they moved to Union, New York. Nicholas was employed as a carpenter, but he also owned land and farmed. In Feb 1877 during the local elections in Union, Nicholas was elected as the game constable. He worked hard to provide for his family. Unfortunately, Nicholas died in a freak accident in Sep 1877. He was visiting a neighbor when a storm came up and he was struck by lightning and killed instantly. Two of Eliza's daughters were married by this time, but daughter Charlotte was still living at home. Eliza's son Franklin did not marry until about 1880, and he was living at home in 1875, so most likely he was still living at home when his father was killed.

About 1880 Eliza married Andrew LaTourette. He was a farmer in Union. In 1880 three of Andrew's brothers and one sister were all living with Eliza and Andrew. Eliza's daughter Charlotte was out of the home by then. Andrew died in Nov 1909 and by 1910 Eliza was living in a home next door to son Franklin. She had her own income according to census records.

On Christmas day 1917 Eliza died in bed at the home of her daughter Charlotte. She passed away quietly in her sleep. Her great-granddaughter Marion Wells was at her side when she passed away peacefully. Eliza had been telling Marion about her various ancestors, including Patriots during the American Revolution and also family that came on the Mayflower. All of this has been proven to be true. Marion has passed what she learned on down to her own grandson, Randall Shreve.
