He was born on Sept. 1, 1904, in Arlington, Kan., and came to the Panhandle in 1916 and farmed in the community. He married Lola Irene Morford on Nov. 15, 1934, at Liberal, Kan.
He is survived by: his wife, Lola, of the home; one son, Lawrence Ray Birt of Independence, Kan.; one daughter-in-law, Fairy, also of Independence; one granddaughter, Nelda Ray Birt; one brother, Danny Birt of Guymon; and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, at 2:30 p.m. at the Straight Christian Church with Rev. Larry Evans, pastor of the church, officiating.
Internment will be in the Hooker Cemetery under the direction of the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker.
