While serving in Co. E, 36th Ohio Infantry, Enoch was taken prisoner and kept in Libby Prison. After the war he married Ellen (Cross) Walker who died. He married for the second time in 1870 and came to Merrick County the following year, settling on a farm near Chapman where he spent the rest of his life. In addition to his widow he was survived by daughters Mrs. A. C. Schmutz & Mrs. Effie Vaughn and sons Lora & Orva. Another son died in infancy.
