John A. Alvey, 57, employee of the Goodwin Preserving Company for 27 years, died at 11:15 a.m. yesterday [July 6, 1955] at his home, 1784 Wilson. He had been retired four years. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Edna Long Alvey; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Edgarita Thompson, Mrs. Marietta Lucas, and Mrs. Mary Stanfield; three sons, Andrew, Francis & Theodore Alvey; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Bartley, New Haven, KY; a brother, Jimmy Alvey, St. Francis, KY, and 15 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 2611 Virginia, and at 9 a.m. at St. George Church. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.

Remains resting at Owen Funeral Home, 2611 Virginia Ave. Funeral services Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. from Owen Chapel and at 9 o'clock from St. George Church. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Friday evening at 8 p.m.
