COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 07/07/1955
John A. Alvey, 57, employee of the Goodwin Preserving Company for 27 years, died at 11:15 a.m. yesterday [July 6, 1955] at his home, 1784 Wilson. He had been retired four years. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Edna Long Alvey; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Edgarita Thompson, Mrs. Marietta Lucas, and Mrs. Mary Stanfield; three sons, Andrew, Francis & Theodore Alvey; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Bartley, New Haven, KY; a brother, Jimmy Alvey, St. Francis, KY, and 15 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 2611 Virginia, and at 9 a.m. at St. George Church. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.

ALVEY - Mr. John Ambrosia, passed away suddenly, July 6, 1955, at 11:15 a.m., in his 58th year, at his residence, 1784 Wilson Ave. Devoted husband of Mrs. Mary Edna (nee Long) Alvey; beloved father of Mrs. Mary Edgarita Thompson, Mrs. Marietta Lucas, Mrs. Mary Lou Stanfield, Mr. Andrew Alvey, Mr. Francis Alvey, and Mr. Theodore Alvey; brother of Mrs. Ethel Bartley, New Haven, KY, and Mr. Jimmy Alvey, St. Francis, KY; also survived by 15 grandchildren. Remains resting at Owen Funeral Home, 2611 Virginia Ave. Funeral services Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. from Owen Chapel and at 9 o'clock from St. George Church. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Friday evening at 8 p.m.
