Johannes J. "John" Beglau 1866-1954

Johannes J. Beglau was born February 15, 1866 in Beresina, Bessarabia, Russia (currently known as Berezyne, Odes'ka, Ukraine), the sixth of ten children born to Friedrich "Friederick" Beglau and Katharina "Katherina" (Woessner) Beglau.

His siblings include; Friedrich Beglau, Jakob Wilhelm Beglau, Barbara (Beglau) Maier, Rosina Beglau (who died in infancy in Russia), Jacob Beglau (who died in childhood in Russia), Gottlieb Beglau, Friederika Beglau, Katherina (Beglau) Fishcer and Friedrich "Fred" Beglau.

John came to America with his parents and four older surviving siblings in 1886, arriving in McIntosh county, North Dakota on April 3, 1886. His father homesteaded a claim twenty-five miles north of Ashley, North Dakota. They built a sod house for the family and a shelter for their four oxen and began to break up the land to put in a crop.

John married Justina Fischer in 1888 in McIntosh county, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Johann Fischer and Karolina (Mutschell) Fischer.

They became the parents to twelve children; Gustaf Beglau (who died in infancy in North Dakota), Mary Maria (Beglau) Kuest, Frederick Beglau (who died at age 6 years in North Dakota), Otillia "Tillie" (Beglau) Schauer Haas, Jakob B. "Jack" Beglau, Johann Beglau (who died in infancy in North Dakota), Johannes J. "John" Beglau, Reinhold Beglau, David Beglau, Robert Beglau, Soloman Sam Beglau and Benjamin Beglau.

John farmed in Kulm, North Dakota for 40 years before moving to Lodi, San Joaquin county, California in 1936. They were members of the Hilborn Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lodi.

John's wife, Justina, passed away in 1947 and John made his last home at 415 S. Central Ave in Lodi, before moving into a local rest home where he spent his remaining days, until his death on May 25, 1954, at the age of 88 years old.

He was laid to rest, next to his wife, in the Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery in Lodi, San Joaquin county, California.
