Horrace was the sixth child born to Dr John Kelly Longacre and Mary Ann Lundy. They lived in Harwood, Vernon County from 1859 to after the war. After 1870 they moved back to Harwood.
After that Dr John Kelly Longacre moved his practice to Jerico Springs MO.
John was listed as a surgeon with Shelby's Medical Corp. Most of the Longacre's were with Gen Jo Shelby's Brigade for at least part of the war. Jo Shelby's Brigade was Gen Price's Iron Brigade.
Horrace's grandfather was John Longacre,who along with John's brother Wiley, were murdered by federal troops in front of his home less than a quarter mile from this grave site.
John Kelly's other brother was Charles A. Longacre who was in Hurst's Reg., Rain's Div, Missouri State Guard, and was with Quantrill in 1862.
