John was the grandson of Benjamin Longacre, the first Longacre to enter into Missouri. Ben moved to Bluff Springs, north of present day Kingsville, in 1827.
John was also the third great-grandson of Anders Peterson Longacre, born 1657, and Magdalena Cock Longacre, born 1659, the first Longacre's born in America.
The 1860 & 1870 Census shows him living near Kingsville, Johnson Co., Missouri.
By 1880 he has settled in Jerico Springs. Some of his descendants still go to and are Deacons of the church he attended, that is across the street from the house where he lived and practiced medicine.
There are records showing he was in Gen. Shelby's Medical Corp.
He was a brother to Charlie Longacre, a Quantrill man and attended Confederate reunions with his brother.
Most of John's other Longacre kin were in the CSA. Most were in units that were under Shelby's command at one time or the other, except for his brother Charlie who was with Quantrill in 1862 and then in Pindall's Sharpshooters.
