OBITUARY: The Ledger Star, Norfolk, Va. February 12, 1976
Memorial Obituary, "Entered Into Eternal Rest, Wednesday, February 11, 1976" Portsmouth - Noah Webster Askew, 79, of 2204 Greenwood Drive, the husband of Mrs. Margaret Mary Askew and a Navy veteran of World Wars I and II, died Wednesday in a hospital. He retired as a chief boatswain mate after 27 years. He then worked as a rigger at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and retired after 49 years of service to our Country. He then worked as a rigger at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and retired
after 22 years. He was a Catholic and lived here 34 years. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Curran and Miss
Rosemary Askew, and a son, Frank Askew, all of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Hutchings of Hugo, Okla.; a brother, Fred Askew of Malott, Wash.; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church by the Rev. Fr. Robert Ruth. Burial, with military honors, will be in Woodlawn.

Noah W. Askew, 79, of Portsmouth, Va., died Wednesday in Portsmouth. He was born in Russellville, Ala., in 1897 and came to Hugo with his parents in 1908. He lived in Hugo until he joined the U. S. Navy in 1918. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; three children, Katherin Brannon, Rosemary Askew and Frank Askew all of Portsmouth; one brother Fred Askew of Mallott, Wash.; one sister, Mattie Hutchings of Hugo; and four grandchildren. Four deceased brothers are Dr. E. R. Askew, Harvey Askew, Gordon (Tobe) Askew. A deceased sister is Emma King.
His military marker is inscribed "CBM US Navy WWII"
