City Couple die in Auto Accident
Paris, Ark. (Special)
-- Fort Smith businessman Edward H. (Ed) Neumeier, 47, and his wife Mary Jane, 43, apparently were killed instantly Wednesday when their automobile went out of control and hit a bridge 22 miles east of here on Highway 22.
State Trooper Joe Brewer said Mrs. Neumeier was driving the car when it left the highway, traveled 66 feet along the right shoulder, moved at an angle for 71 feet across the highway, then for another 43 feet on the left shoulder before hitting the Mill Creek bridge railing sideways. Brewer said the contact with the bridge spun the car into the middle of the bridge.
THE NEUMIERS [sic] were reported to have been on their way to Russellville to pick up his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Neumeier, for a pleasure trip. Another brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Neumeier of Paris, canceled out of the trip Tuesday night.
The Neumeiers, of 522 North Nineteenth Street, operated both the Dinty Moore's and the Chickuisine Restaurants in Forth Smith.
Both were natives of Scranton. He graduated from St. Ignatius there and Mrs. Neumeier graduated from Paris High School.
They lived at Paris before moving to Fort Smith in 1945. While here, he operated the Blue Mill and Green Frog cafes. He also formerly operated the Steakhouse in Russellville.
THE BODIES [sic] were first taken in the Cox Funeral home at Paris and later returned to the Edwards Funeral home in Fort Smith.
A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for Mrs. Neumeier and the public rosary for the couple will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday. Both services will be held at the Edwards chapel. Funeral mass will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic church. The couple will be buried at Holy Cross cemetery.
Survivors include four sons, Eddie, a student at Arkansas Tech, Bobbie, a student at New Subiaco Abbey, Nicky, a student at Fort Smith Junior College, and Vincent of the home; and one daughter Sharon of the home.
Mr. Neumeier also has two other brothers, Martin of Springfield, Mo, and Robert of St. Louis, Mo; and two sisters, Mrs. Hedwig Raible and Mrs. Stella Rhinehart, both of Morrilton.
Mrs. Neumeier's survivors also include her mother, Mrs. Anna Lensing of Fort Smith; six brothers, the Rt. Rev. Michael Lensing, abbot of New Subiaco Abbey, George, Leo and Casper Lensing, all of Lake Providence, La., Tom of Little Rock and James of Des Moines, Iowa; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Murphy of Fort Worth, (Texas) and Mrs. Herman Buss of Scranton.

Funeral mass for Mr. and Mrs. Edward Neumeier was held this morning at the St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial for the couple was in Holy Cross cemetery.
Active pallbearers for Mr. Neumeier were Nick Benedetto, Harry Neumeier, Jerome Kremer, Joe Bauer, Herman Neihouse, and Leo Kleck.
Active pallbearers for Mrs. Neumeier were Henry Thron, Augustine Buss, David Lensing, Vincent T. Murphy, Stephen Megless, and Stephen Heim, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Walker, Harold Watkins, Bill Avlos, Louis Seiter, Royal Bowman, Donald Kennedy, Fate Dotson, Herman Schwartz, John Daley, Joe Lensing, and Herman Buss.
