ELLEN DAVIS MILLER ROCK

Ellen Rock, age 87, of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away in Sandpoint on March 18, 2006.

Ellen was born on August 22, 1918 southeast of Lone Wolf on the family farm to Fred Davis and Floy Ellen Anderson Davis. She was the oldest of nine brothers and sisters.

Ellen Davis, age 18, Lone Wolf, Kiowa County, Oklahoma, and (William) Leon Miller, age 21, Roosevelt, Kiowa County, Oklahoma, were married by Lynn Hopkins, Minister, Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, on November 22, 1935 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. J. L. Johnson and Mrs. J. L. Johnson, both of Lone Wolf, were witnesses to the marriage. They moved to California where they had five children: Betty Ann, Louise, Clifford L., Ronald J., and Barbara Elaine. They later divorced.

Ellen lived in California until meeting Ivan Rock and getting married in 1953. Ivan had a son, Jesse. They moved to Calder, Idaho in March of 1954 with four of the six children.

While in Calder, Ellen worked for the school district and helped Dorothy Mooney in the Calder Post Office and store. She provided transportation to and from Saint Maries and Spokane for many of the resident who didn't or wouldn't drive the river road. It wasn't uncommon to find her taking an injured lumberjack or expectant mother to the hospital in Saint Maries. Ivan's work took them from Calder to Superior, Montana. They remained in Superior until he was transferred to Prist River, Idaho by Diamond. While living in Priest River, Ellen was active in The Women in Timber organization and the Ladies Lion Club. Ivan and Ellen were both officers in the Priest River Yacht Club. A devoted homemaker, Ellen enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, baking and canning her garden harvest.

Ellen moved to Sandpoint, Idaho to be near Ivan after his health would not allow him to live at home. After Ivan died she spent her remaining years living in Sandpoint at the Bridge or The Life Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Rock, her parents, Fred and Floy Davis, two brothers, Warren G. Davis and Daryl Davis, and one grandson.

She was survived by her six children; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also six sisters, Dorothy Thurman and husband R. H., Carnegie, Oklahoma; Norma Davis, Hobart, Oklahoma; Evelyn Whisenhunt and husband Floyd, Lincoln, Nebraska; Joyce Martin and husband J. V., Lockney, Texas; Cleta Chain, Hobart, and husband Garland, Cooperton, Oklahoma; and Della Collins, Hobart, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ellen's name may be made to Alzheimer's Association at P.O. Box 1294, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho 83814-1294.
