OBITUARY:
COL. JOSEPH WHEELER PASSES AT DECATUR
DECATUR. Ala., Aug. 6 (A)-Col. Joseph Wheeler, Jr., son of a famed cavalryman who fought with the Confederate and United States armies, died here today of a heart attack. Col. Wheeler had been brought to a Decatur hospital from the family home at Wheeler Station.
The son of Fighting Joe Wheeler, who led Confederate troops at Chickamauga and late commanded United States volunteers at San Juan Hill, had continued in the military career of his father. A colonel of artillery in the World War, Wheeler retired several years ago.
Since then, he has lived with a sister, Miss Annie Wheeler, at the Wheeler Station home near here. He was a bachelor.
Funeral services will be held a 1 p. m. Monday from the Home. The body will be sent to Washington, for interment in Arlington cemetery, where General Wheeler also is buried.
