Lt. Col.Thomas Neel III born abt. 1764, was the son of Col. Thomas and Jean Spratt Neel. He was the twin brother of Col. Andrew Neel, and brother to Lt. John Neel, Sarah Neel Johnston, Mary Neel Hawthorne, Elizabeth Neel Shelby, and Jean Neel Leeper. He served in the Patriot Army during the American Revolutionary War, in the Militia of the New Acquisition, York County, South Carolina. He was killed in battle in 1781. He is buried in the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, at Clover, South Carolina.
