Joseph D. Abbott, 71, died at his home in Caruthersvile on December 12, 1999 at the age of 71. He was born in Cottonwood Point on December 22, 1927, the son of the late Jesse David Abbott and Vernie Nile Potter Abbott.
Abbott attended schools at Cottonwood Point and Caruthersville. He was a veteran having served his country in the United States Navy. On June 25, 1949 in Piggott, Ark., he was united in marriage to Miss Delpha Pate. He was employed as a parts manager with Dillman Auto Parts and Don Medlin Company for many years prior to his retirement. He was a very active member of the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church and a former Lions Club Member.
Abbott was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Abbott.
Survivors include his wife, Delpha Abbott of Caruthersville; two sons, Mike Abbott and his wife Patty, and Brian Abbott and his wife Susan, both of Caruthersville; one daughter, Becky Smith and her husband Bill of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Sheri Abbott, Todd Abbott, Christian Abbott and Parr Abbott, all of Caruthersville and Kim Smith and Leigh Smith, both of Dayton, Ohio; one sister Ida Mae Clark of Caruthersville; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Services were held on Wedmesday, December 15, 1999, 11 a.m. at the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Rick Broadway officiating. Interment was in the Little Prairie Cemetery.
