James Edward Abbott, 80, of Cottonwood Point, died Feb. 9, 1993 at his home. Born Feb. 23, 1912 at Cottonwood Point, he was the son of Vernie Potter and Jessie Abbott. He attended schools at Cottonwood Point, was employed for many years as a pilot by the Taylor Brothers Ferry and was a member of Cottonwood Point Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Morine Abbott of Cottonwood Point; A son, Don Abbott of Crawfordsville, Ark.; His mother, Mrs. Vernie Abbott of Hayti; A brother, Joe Abbott of Caruthersville; A sister, Ida Mae Clark of Cottonwood Point; And two granddaughters, Vicky Nix of Memphis and Donna Higgins of Atlanta.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services were Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. at Cottonwood Point Baptist Church, the Rev. Charles Hollingsworth officiating, with burial in Maple Cemetery, H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge.
