Although his full name was James Alexander Lancaster as shown by how he declared his name on various census reports. His death certificate indicates that later in life he was most commonly called "Alexander."

His Missouri Death Certificate states that he was born 29 February 1843, but the FAG system will not take that date as the system states that February 1843 was in a leap year and the 29th day of the month did not exist that year.
