~ Early Life ~
Luther was born in 1846 in Indiana to the Parents of John Henderson Collins and Hannah Leonard. He had 5 sisters; Elizabeth, Minerva, Sarah, Harriet, Lousia and 4 brothers; Robert, Gardner, Andrew and Samuel.

~ Marriage ~
Luther married Emily Caroline Lee on October 28, 1874 in Wells County, Indiana.

~ Children ~
Luther and Emily had 4 boys; Charles F., Alexander H., Milton L., Nelson T. and 5 girls; Birdie, Sarah, Carrie H., Margaret, Jessie.

~ CIVIL WAR ~
Luther and three of his brothers: Gardner, Andrew and Samuel fought for the Union side in the Civil War.

Luther's Unit was:
UNION INDIANA VOLUNTEERS
147th Regiment, Indiana Infantry
Organized at Indianapolis, Ind., and mustered in March 13, 1865. Left State for Harper's Ferry, W. Va., March 16. Attached to 1st Brigade, 3rd Provisional Division, Army of the Shenandoah, and guard duty at Charleston, Stevenson's Station and Summit Point, Berryville, Harper's Ferry and Maryland Heights till August. Mustered out August 4, 1865.

Lost during service 44 Enlisted men by disease.

Luther died in Wells County, Indiana at the age of 68 and he is buried in Grove Cemetery, Wells County, Ponitia, Indiana. His wife and several of his children our buried in the same cemetery.
