It was with regret and sadness that Corning friends learned of the death of
Israel Olive at his home in north Corning Tuesday morning, January 25, 1921, at
about 10 o'clock. Funeral services will be held at the M. E. church Thursday at
2 o'clock in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. Jay Kirkendall, the pastor, and
the body will be laid to rest in Walnut Grove cemetery.
Mr. Olive was born in Langshire, England, April 3, 1842, being aged 79 years, 9
months and 22 days at the time of his demise. He came to America when about 8
years of age. He located in Split Rock Ill., which was his home for a time and
he also resided at other places in Illinois for a short time before coming to
Iowa. He was married to Miss Ellen Bush, in Ottawa, Ill., on the 20th of
January, about 48 years ago. To this union were born three daughters and two
sons, who survive the father. Besides the children, Tom Olive, of Blackwell,
Okla.; Charles Olive, near Corning; Mrs. Caro Baker, Kirksville, Mo.; Mrs.
Stella Davis and Miss Margaret Olive, at home. Mr. Olive leaves his faithful
wife, and 13 grandchildren; also a large circle of friends. He resided on a
farm in Adams County until about 16 years ago when the family located in
Corning. Mr. Olive was a kind gentleman, a faithful friend and splendid
neighbor. He will be missed from our community.
James Bush, a brother of Mrs. Olive, from Streator, Ill., and Mrs. Ottowell
Baker of Kirksville, Mo., are here to attend the funeral.
