Walter Lawrence Cline, age 69, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He and his sons owned and operated Cline's Body Shop. Mr. Cline was a member of the Petunia Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves and was a member of the Rural Retreat American Legion Post #229. He was preceded in death by his father, Garland Alexander Cline, and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Marsh Cline of Wytheville; two sons, Walter Douglas "Doug" Cline and Lawrence Edward "Eddie" Cline, both of Wytheville; his mother, Nealy Jane Martin Cline of Wytheville; four sisters, Virginia Sutphin and Libby Caudle, both of Wytheville, Helen Tickle, Max Meadows, and Ethel Willard of Darlington, SC; five brothers, Richard H. Cline and Randy Cline, both of Rural Retreat, Kenley Cline of Crockett, Bill Cline of Dublin, and Martin Cline of Wytheville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. at Barnett's Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Holly Phillips officiating. Interment followed in West End Cemetery. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 404 8th St., N.E., Charlottesville, VA 22901 or to the American Heart Association, Attn: Imogene Orfield, Treasurer, PO Box 297, Wytheville, VA 24382. Barnett's Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of arrangements.
