John E. Werner. 84, a resident of the Upper Valley for 71 yean, died March 28, 1989, at Central Washington Hospital. He was bom on March 25, 1905, to John and Eva (Pflugrath) Werner at Odessa, Wash. In 1918 die family moved to Feshastin where he attended school On July 2, 1925, he married Lenora Snyder in Wenatchee. In 1946 they bought a fruit orchard in Peshastin which they owned until the mid fifties when they moved to Leavenworth where he worked as a carpenter. In 1963 they moved to Dryden, where he was employed by the Pe-shastin-Dryden School District until his retirement in 1969. He then served as interpreter for various or-chardists in die Valley. In February of 1988, the Werners moved to Leavenworth. Mr. Werner is survived by his widow, Lenora, of the family home; one son, John Werner Jr. of Dryden; two daughters, Betty Jo Spies of Dryden and Patricia Black of Portland, Ore.; four sister, Dorothy Brender of Seattle, Gussie Werner of Spokane, Beatrice Colvin of Leavenworth and Bernice Smith of Peshastin; four brothers, Herman Werner of Seattle, Harold Wemer of Anchorage, Ted Werner and Paul Weiner, both of Wenatchee; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter. Celeste Werner in 1970; three brothers. Infant Werner, Rudolph Wemer and Dan Wemer; and four sisters, Johanna, Emma, Anne and Ruth. Graveside services were held in the Peshastin Cemetery with Pastor Marion Knoll officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Dryden Community Church or the Alpine Boys Ranch. Ward's Funeral Chapel of Leavenworth is in charge of arrangements.
