Andrew was born in Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio, the son of George and Rachel (Taff) Snyder--of German parentage and thought to be buried in Brown Co., Ohio. He married Sarah Baker on Jan. 31, 1828 in Woodlawn, Ohio County, West Virginia. Sarah was the daughter of George and Sarah Bean Baker of Marshall Co., W. Virginia. Andrew and Sarah Snyder lived in Marshall Co., West Virginia near Sarah's family until the Spring of 1844 when they came to Pleasant Grove, Des Moines Co., Iowa with their family. They had a farm of 200 acres and raised stock. They were members of the Methodist church. It is said that from the log cabin that Andrew first built and had replaced by the time of his death, one could see this Carter graveyard where he was later buried. So, he and Sarah were buried near the land they farmed and lived on. Andrew Snyder died near Pleasant Grove, Des Moines Co., Iowa. Andrew and Sarah Snyder were the parents of 4 sons and 6 daughters. Andrew Snyder was reported as having died of spinal fever at the age 82 years and 2 months by Doctor Giese of Danville, Des Moines Co., Iowa (Death Record in Des Moines Co.--Book 1.)
