Funeral services of the late Sam Tidwell of Marvin Chapel, who died at his home there December 9, 1917, were conducted at the Chapel last Sunday by the Rev. A.N. Burris. A large number of persons were present, coming from different parts of Pemiscot County, as well as Arkansas and Tennessee.
The song services were led by O. J. Friend, assisted by his wife and son and Prof. J.E. Palmer and Ode Holt.
Mr. Tidwell was born December 25, 1849. He was converted twenty-eight years ago at Cottonwood Point under the ministry of the Rev. Mr. Evans known as "Wild Bill." When he moved to Marvin Chapel he transferred his membership to the Methodist Church there and was soon elected steward, filling this position till death came. He left a wife, five children and many friends.
Three good men have been taken from this church in a comparatively short time, J.P. Norment, Elijah Williams and Mr. Tidwell. We thank God for the influence of such men and will ever cherish their memory for the stand they took for the church, and the kingdom of God and the upbuilding of mankind in this grand old country of Pemiscot, which we love so well. May we all live proper lives and be prepared to meet over yonder where parting will be no more.
