Agnes Graham Davidson was born and raised in Blackburn, Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland. She was the daughter of James Davidson and Marion Lauder. She worked in a cotton mill before emigrating to America ahead of her family. After emigrating to Lisbon, Wisconsin, United States of America, she married William Butler Jr. and had twelve children. Along with the Russell family, the Butlers were one of the first pioneer farm families in Sussex, Waukesha County. The family would occupy the same land until the death of Robert Butler's widow Rescella in 2014.
