Harry J. Salvador passed away at his home, Nov. 10, 2009 at the age of 84. Services were held at the Haxtun Methodist Church, Nov. 14, 2009.
Harry was born at Wages on April 7, 1925, to H. E. "Elgin" and Alice Sperber Salvador. He attended Wages school near the family home. Harry went to Haxtun High School. While staying in town, boarding with family friends he worked at a restaurant after school. Harry loved to tell the story of how many dishes he did before cooking for the evening supper rush. Harry farmed with his father for several years after high school.
Harry married Mary Reynolds of Haxtun in 1945. They lived in the Wages community. Later they moved several miles west to a farm in the Clarkville community. He continued to reside there until his death.
Four children were born to the couple, Darrell, Lauretta, Steven, and Barbara. Darrell died as an infant.
Farming was a career he loved and continued to do until his health kept him off the combine this wheat harvest. However, he was still at the field going for parts or helping move equipment from one place to another. He was happiest out in the field, baling, swathing, working summer fallow or harvesting a crop. Part of his field work includes doing custom farming for family and neighbors.
Harry and Mary began spending part of each winter in Arizona in 1973. More recently spending half of the year there. Harry continued to go to Arizona after Mary, his wife of 58 years, passed away in 2003. The many Arizona friends became a huge part of his life. He loved to have Colorado friends and family stop in to show them the sights. The Casa Grande ruins and the sky divers were must see places to tour with all who came to see him. Harry was a 56 year member of the Masonic Lodge A.F.A.M. He held many offices including Master. Harry belonged to the Colorado Consistory. The Masonic scholarship fund was dear to his heart and he encouraged all to support it. Harry served a Worthy Patron of Haxtun and Holyoke Chapters of Order of Eastern Star. He was a Rainbow Dad and on the advisory board for Rainbow Girls while his daughters were in Rainbow. Harry was a 50+ year member of the Methodist Church. The Wages Fire Department was another of his passions. Later he became an Honorary Fireman.
He appreciated the hard work and training they received in order to help when there was a fire. Because of their quick response they saved his home from complete destruction in May of 2007.

Harry was dad and grandpa to many, many other people across Colorado and Arizona. His loving friendship enriched the lives of all he called family.
