MRS. HENRY CARNEY

Mrs. Henry Carney died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Luella Bell, in English township, on Wednesday evening, November 12, 1902, after an illness of three months with cancerous trouble. The death of Mrs. Carney takes from this county one of its oldest and most respected ladies.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Bunt, were held at Central church on Friday morning at ten o'clock, after which the remains were interred in the Brownlee cemetery.

Miss Amy Newbern was born in Preble county, Ohio, on September 3, 1838. When but eight years old she moved with her parents to Putnam county, Illinois. She was married there on January 12, 1858, to Henry Carney, who passed away a year ago. They came to this county in 1881 and have since resided in English township.

They were the parents of four children. One daughter, Ada E., died in June, 1882. The others, Will B., Albertus and Mrs. Luella Bell, reside in English township and in their sorrow have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.

Mrs. Carney was a lady of strong mind, well read and a character most excellent. Her religious life was simple, devout and practical. Her highest happiness came from being helpful to others. She was beloved by a large circle of friends and her death comes as a personal loss to all who knew her.
