Rebecca Irene Gilbert, age 87, passed away on April 17, 1976 at Hodges Nursing Home in Elk City, Oklahoma. Her memorial service was held on April 19 at the First Christian Church in Sayre. Rev. Ernest Ashcraft and Rev. LaVern Draper officiated.

She was born on February 3, 1891 in Gentry County, Missouri. She moved to the Dempsey, Oklahoma community with her parents and siblings in 1905. She married Hubert William Dodson, also of the Dempsey community, on November 25, 1908. Early in their marriage the couple lived in Ely, Nevada, Clayton, New Mexico and the Dempsey community before moving to Sayre, Oklahoma in 1925.

Born into this marriage were daughter, Willa Frances in Grimes, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. In 1912. Son, Giles Hubert, was born in 1914 in Clayton, New Mexico. Daughter, Vianna Jewell was born in 1919 in Clayton, New Mexico. After settling in Sayre Hubert and Rebecca owned and operated a grocery store.

In 1931 Hubert died of complications following an Appendectomy. In 1934 Rebecca married Thomas Gilbert. In 1940 they moved to Reydon, Oklahoma where they owned and operated a dry goods store. Thomas died in 1950 and Rebecca continued to operate the store until retiring in the 60's.

Rebecca is remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother by her family. She was known for her regular family gatherings where everyone received special treatment. A committed Christian, Rebecca was an active member of the Baptist Church in Reydon.
