DODSON

G.H. "Bunk" Dodson, 80, died April 8, 1995, in his home in Sayre. Funeral services were held Monday, April 10 at the Sayre First Christian with DeWayne Wright officiating. Burial was in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.

Mr. Dodson, the son of Rebecca Irene and Hugh Dodson, was born on Sept. 9, 1914, in Clayton, N.M. He moved to Sayre with his parents in 1924 and attended Sayre High School. He married Lucille Russell on Dec. 25, 1934, in Sayre. They lived in Oklahoma City before moving back to Sayre to make their home. During World War II, he taught electronics and radio for the National Youth Administration. He owned and operated Dodson Radio and Television Repair and Sales.

In the mid-1950s, he became a pioneer in the cable television industry when he began putting TV cable systems in Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, Kansas and New Mexico that later became Dorate, Inc. Mr. Dodson was a founding member of the CATV association and published the CATV magazine for several years. He was also a founding member of the National Cable Television Association, where he served as its secretary for several years. He also owned owned and operated Dodson Welding Supply from the early 1970s until his retirement in 1985. He has received numerous national awards for his work and dedication to the cable TV industry. He was a member of the Sayre First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Judy Raye, two sisters and one son-in-law, Howard Moseley.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Dodson, of the home; three daughters, Charlotte Moseley, of Prescott, Ariz., Darla and her husband, Charles Williams, of Oklahoma City, and Jeanne Dodson, of Tulsa; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Fran Dodson, of Weatherford; one sister, Jewell Peters, of Bethany, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Pearle Russell, of Sayre; one brother-in-law, A.C. Presley, of Elk City; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
