Obituary:
Helen M. Showalter, 60, of 1123 Moore St., Huntingdon, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 1981 in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she had been a patient since Jan. 5. Born July 11, 1920 in Altoona, she was the daughter of Robert M. and Della (Dean) Briggs. She was united in marriage to Marshall J. Showalter Jr. on Jan. 4, 1944 in the 15th Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, by Dr. John T. Peters and the Rev. Frederick Moore. She is survived by her husband who is the president of Penn Central National Bank in Huntingdon. She is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Mosteller of Christiana; a son, Marshall J. Showalter III of Huntingdon; two sisters, Mrs. A.B. (Anna) Fowler of Pitcairn and Mrs. James (Ruth) Newcombe of Huntingdon; and two grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Huntingdon, and its women's association. She served as secretary to the minister and as financial secretary to the congregation, retiring from these positions in 1977. She also taughter kindergarten at the church shcool for a number of years. She was an active worker for the Huntingdon Chapter, American Red Cross bloodmobile and with the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was also a hospital volunteer. She was a member of the auxiliaries of both the Standing Stone Post 1754, VFW of Huntingdon, and the Frank P. Hommon Post 24, American Legion of Huntingdon. She also served as a member of the election board of the fourth ward, Borough of Huntingdon. She was educated in the Huntingdon public schools and was a 1938 graduate of Huntingdon High Schoool. She had resided in Huntingdon since 1928. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the First United Presbyerian Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Harold G. Williams and the Rev. William B. Payne officiating. Private interment services will be held at the convenience of the family Wednesday afternoon Feb. 4, at Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon R.D. 1. It was the request of Mrs. Showalter that there by no public viewing. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Showalter's memory may be made ot the First United Presbyterian Church (Huntingdon) Memorial Fund; the J.C. Bliar Memorial Hospital Fund; the Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Huntingdon County located at 510 Penn St., Huntingdon; or to the Arthritis Foundation at 112 Market St., Suite 207, Harrisburg, Pa. 17101
