OBITUARY
Sgt. Robert W. Briggs
Sergeant Robert Watson Briggs, 42, 3090 E. Maiden St., Extension, Washington, RD5, was killed in an auto accident near Ebensburg, Sunday, August 16, 1959. He was born August 30, 1916, in Huntinsdon County, a son of Delia Briggs and the late Robert Briggs. Sgt. Briggs has been stationed in Washington since early 1958, assigned to the U.S. Army Reserve Center with offices in the Washington County Courthouse. He was a member of BPOE Lodge No. 776 and Edwin Scott Linton Post No. 175, American Legion, both of Washington. He was married in January, 1959, to Virginia Riggle of Washington, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Della Briggs, Huntingdon; two children, Sandra and Robert Jr., and three step-children, Gary, Paula and Paul, all at home; three sisters and one brother. One sister, Mrs. Dorothy Mae Corbin, lost her life in the accident in which Sgt. Briggs was killed. Friends may call at the Robert C. Gordon Funeral home, corner Wilson and East Katherine Avenues, where services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m., in charge of Rev. Charles R. Graham. Burial in Washington Cemetery with military rites at graveside.
